ALTERNATIVE BREAK - Spring 2009

Sac State students - get involved by participating in Alternative Break - Spring 2009. Team up with other Sacramento State students to work on projects throughout the week with organizations such as Alt Break Student kneeling with back to camera Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, St. John's Shelter, Center For Land Based Learning and Habitat for Humanity. Alternative Break will take place Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3. Students commit to one to five day-long service projects, usually 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Each day, two student Team Leaders guide the activities and serve as the main point of contact for the community partners when on site.

Join us for an Alternative Break this spring, March 30 - April 3.

Service projects will include:

  • Monday, March 30: Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services - Volunteer with the food and clothing resource center
  • Tuesday, March 31: St. John's Shelter for Women and Children
  • Wednesday, April 1: Center for Land Based Learning - Work at the Farm on Putah Creek
  • Thursday and Friday, April 2-3: Habitat for Humanity

A unique part of Alternative Break at Sacramento State is that it is centered locally in the Sacramento region, enabling students to learn more about local programs and future volunteer opportunities. By partnering with sites that also serve as service learning community partners, Alternative Break supports the Community Engagement Center’s goal of building long term, sustainable partnerships between the University and community through a variety of engagement endeavors.

Alternative Break, a collaborative project sponsored by Sacramento State’s Community Engagement Center, Student Activities department, and Student Health Center, offers Sacramento State students an alternative option for academic breaks.
