Service learning promotes student learning through active participation in meaningful, education-focused community service experiences. In service learning courses, students enhance their understanding of course content, sense of civic responsibility, and self-awareness, while meeting important community needs.

Alternative Break engages students in short-term, community-based service projects. Sac State students provide much needed service to diverse communities, while building skills and great friendships. It’s also a great way to break out and see new places, people, and perspectives.

One Book Program is a campus-wide initiative encompassing all disciplines, all class levels, and all members of the campus community. Bridging literacy and community engagement, participants read preselected books, engage in discussions with the authors, and take part in service projects that address the contemporary social issues raised by the books.
